Charles Street designed the Fales 38 in the early 1970s. Starting in 1974, Fales Yachts, based in Bristol, Rhode Island, marketed the first eight hulls out of the mold as the Fales 39 Navigator in a center cockpit configuration. In 1978, they introduced the Fales 38 Explorer, an aft cockpit ketch rigged cutter. Under Fales, then Alden Yachts, and, finally, Pearson Tillotson Fales, a total of 18 of the Explorer models were built.
